My name is Sebastian Herrera and I am a journalist
major at the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently working on my degree
and concentration in sports journalism. I plan to be a sports journalist after
I graduate and work as a reporter covering teams and sporting events.
I was born in Bogota', Colombia where I lived for
about six years. My family and and I moved to Dallas permanently when I was
eight. I lived there until I graduated high school in 2011. Since childhood I
have been interested in different sports. I became a fan of soccer first while
living in Colombia and then eventually fell in love with popular American
sports like football, basketball and baseball. I have also played various
sports throughout my lifetime so it is through that and my interest/talent for
writing that I decided to be a sports journalist. I have a passion for news and
a love for this field of work.
I am a sports writer for The Daily Texan and a
part of Texas student TV. I am also interning as a reporter at KUT News June - August 2013.
My vision for my career is to change the perception of media into one
that is more accountable and trustworthy. I plan to do this by instilling the
same moral values and Christian faith that drives me into more people of this
profession. I also want to provide citizens with incredible news content and
with a public service that is suppose to go hand in hand with this career.
